How do I add my own products, photos and options?

TL;DR: My Products → Add product makes a new product of your own in three steps. On the product's page you add photos, put them in order and add colours or sizes. Many new products at once: My Products → Add products from a file.

These buttons are for a store whose products are kept in btab: you change your products here, not in a Shopify sheet. If your products still come from your own Shopify export, change them in Shopify and upload the export again (Refresh your catalogue from Shopify).

How do I add a new product?

1. Open My Products and click Add product.
2. What it is: type the name, choose Who makes it (one of your suppliers), and add a photo with Take photo or Choose a photo (JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 10 MB). A description is optional. Click Next.
3. Price and stock: type the Price the shopper pays. The Cost you pay the supplier is optional and is ex GST. Type the Stock, or tick Don't count stock. A Code (SKU) is optional: leave it empty and btab gives the product one. Untick Put it on sale on my store now to add it without selling it yet. Click Next.
4. Check and add: read the summary, for example "This will add Ergo mesh chair under Rapidline at $499.00, 3 in stock, on sale". Click Add product.
5. Click Open the product to add more photos or colours and sizes.

A product you already have is never added twice. If you see You already have a product named …, click Open the one you have and change that one instead.

How do I add many new products at once?

1. Open My Products and click Add products from a file.
2. Choose your products file: a Shopify products export (CSV or Excel).
3. Click Preview what changes. Nothing is saved yet.
4. Read the preview:
   • New products: these are added.
   • You already have these: these are left exactly as they are. A file never changes your products or takes them off sale.
   • A row with the same code or name twice in the file, or a price over $1,000,000, is listed and not added. Fix it in the file and upload again.
5. Click Add products.

To change a product you already have, open its page.

How do I add, order and remove photos?

1. Open the product's page (click its name in My Products).
2. Under the photos, click Add photo and choose a picture. Do this once for each photo.
3. Click Arrange photos:
   • the arrows move a photo left or right;
   • the star makes a photo the main photo (it moves to the front);
   • the bin removes a photo, after you confirm.
4. Click Save order.

The last photo cannot be removed: a product with no photo is hidden from your store. Add another photo first. To describe your photos for search engines and screen readers, see Photo descriptions.

How do I add colours or sizes?

1. Open the product's page and find Options. Click Add options.

2. If the product has no colours or sizes yet, name the option first, for example Colour. Then type what the product is now, for example Oak. You can name up to 3 options (for example Colour and Size).

3. Fill one row for each new option:

   • its value, for example Walnut;
   • the Price;
   • the Cost (ex GST), if you have it;
   • the Stock, or tick Don't count stock;
   • a Code (SKU), if you have one.

   Click Another row for more.

4. Click Review and check the list. Click Add options.

An option the product already has is refused with the reason, and so is a code another of your products uses. A product can have up to 500 options.

To change an option's price, cost or stock, or to take one off sale, use Price, cost and stock on the same page. To stop selling a whole product, see Archive a product.

Why is a button greyed out?

If a button says Only the store owner can do this, your staff role cannot change products. Ask the store owner to give you a role that can change products, at Settings → Staff (Staff logins).

What this means for you

Add a new product as soon as you have it, with its photo, price and stock, straight from your phone. Add the colours and sizes on its page, and arrange the photos so the best one shows first. For a big batch of new products, use a file. It only ever adds products and never changes the ones you have.
