# Btab — instructions for AI agents

> Btab is a marketplace platform: independent online stores, each run by its own retailer, on one catalogue and one checkout system.

## What this is

btab.app is the **front door**, not a shop. Every product is sold by a **store** on its own domain
(`<store>.btab.app` or the retailer's custom domain). The store is the seller of record: browse,
price and buy there. This page tells you how to find the stores and how to read each one.

## How to discover stores

- **Store directory (HTML):** https://btab.app/stores — one link per public store, server-rendered, no JavaScript required.
- **Store directory (JSON):** `GET https://api.btab.app/api/public/stores` → `{ stores: [{ slug, name, tagline, category, url, logo_url, updated_at }] }`. Public, rate-limited (60/min/IP), cached 5 minutes.
- **Agentic-discovery sitemap:** https://btab.app/sitemap-agentic-discovery.xml — every store's `agents.md`, `.well-known/ucp` and `sitemap.xml` in one file.
- **Platform profile:** https://btab.app/.well-known/ucp

## Query the catalogue (MCP)

- **Endpoint:** `POST https://api.btab.app/api/public/catalog/mcp` — Model Context Protocol over streamable HTTP (JSON-RPC 2.0). No authentication; rate-limited per IP (60/min). `GET` the same URL for a plain description.
- **Tools (read-only):** `catalog_search` — search products across every public store (or one store with `store`); `catalog_lookup` — one product by `product_id` or by a storefront product URL.
- **Results are products with OFFERS** — one per store that lists the product, each with that store's AUD price, stock, `enquiry_only` flag, product URL, `product_json` URL and `purchase_url`. The price belongs to the store shown.
- UCP capability ids served: `dev.ucp.shopping.catalog.search`, `dev.ucp.shopping.catalog.lookup`. Nothing else is declared.

## How to read a store

Every store serves the same machine-readable surfaces on its own origin:

- `/agents.md` — that store's instruction sheet (what it sells, policies, contact).
- `/.well-known/ucp` — its merchant profile.
- `/sitemap.xml` — every product at its canonical URL `/products/<name>-<id>`.
- `/products/<name>-<id>` — the product page, with schema.org `Product` + `Offer` JSON-LD embedded (no JavaScript needed).
- `/products/<name>-<id>.json` — the same `Product` + `Offer` document as JSON, plus a `purchase` block (`enquiry_only`, `agentic_checkout`, `url`).

## Prices & currency

- All prices are in **AUD**, GST-inclusive. The `price` / `priceCurrency` in a product's JSON-LD are authoritative for that store.
- The same catalogue product may be priced differently by different stores — the price on the store you are reading is the one that transacts there.

## Purchasing

- **Automated checkout for agents is not available** on btab.app or on any store (`agentic_checkout: false`). Do not attempt to complete a purchase programmatically.
- Direct the buyer to the product page on the store (the `purchase.url` in the product JSON). Some products are **enquiry-only** (`purchase.enquiry_only: true`) — send the buyer to the enquiry form, never treat them as add-to-cart-able.
